History of Northern Lumber
Northern Lumber started as a local sawmill in the 1870's. George Carr, son-in-law
to Harry C. Sutton, and Mr. Fox operated the sawmill. It
was then purchased and operated by the Greilick Brothers
until 1902.
It was in 1902 when E.R. Dailey purchased the site and building and operated it as a stave and heading Mill. After a short operation by Nordhaus it was operated by Carron & Diepenbrock as an excelsion factory until it burned in 1907.
In 1914 Olaf Olson and Chas Chadsey tore down a large building in Thompsonville and moved it to Suttons Bay by rail. Suttons Bay Planing Mill was erected and operated until 1944. At that time Gerald Selby purchased the business and site and named it Northern Lumber Company.
Northern Lumber was purchased by Gary and Genevieve Beuerle from Selby in March
1970. Gary & Genevieve's son Ed then purchased the company from his parents in July 1997.
Ed Beuerle now owns and operates Northern Lumber Co.
